Nick-named the Strange House because of its eccentric layout which is at first hard to grasp. Basically it is a 30 year old large house , over 2 floors with a tiled roof and concrete floors and pillars for strength. Some of the walls have been constructed with oak beams and brick in-fill, so that upstairs are 2 rooms, very habitable with water, electricity, wooden floors and double-glazing. There is space under the roof to enclose more rooms which are currently open-sided and full of agricultural junk ;)

Welcome to OffbeatBulgaria!

Downstairs is all stonewalls and the 3 rooms are much more rustic, but could easily be adapted for modern use. There is a strong concrete internal staircase, which makes things a lot easier. At the top of the stairs is a large veranda to enjoy the quiet village atmosphere and the view of the lush mountain valley.
The aspect of the village is fairly level and the garden of over 3000m2 is very useable, although a bit of a jungle now – neighbouring gardens look very productive and this is a village where most people grow their own food and raise animals.
Access is easy as the house faces the lane, but the location is quiet with almost no traffic as the road peters out shortly after the house – many say the edge of a village is the perfect spot!
So, an odd building that is ready to live in at the moment (with a lot of tidying) but could be tackled by yourself or a local builder to be turned into something more comfortable. Either way it has plenty of living space and is in a wonderful village – many of the practical things are already there, such as water and electricity, septic tank and an excellent roof, plus the basic construction is very solid to begin with – very do-able even on a tight budget!
Brusen itself….. is very much in demand by Sofians, almost no empty houses here and the village has an arty feel attracting the National Theatre director, film and TV people and creative types generally – you`ll see why when you get here ;) Half a dozen shops and a small café and bar, plus 20 minutes to Yablanitsa for your essentials, means you can get all you need. And Sofia, with its year-round airport is an easy hours drive………
